Story Mode[]
In the story mode, the player operates Shana and has to clear 2D, Beat 'em up scrolling stages within a time limit in order to confront a boss. Bonus points are awarded after a level according to the remaining time and amount of health the player has left. The player loses if their hit points are fully depleted twice.
Yūji Sakai had just started high school and was leading a normal life. However, he saw a different world, learned that he would die, and encountered the girl of flames.
Stage 1[]
Alastor told Shana that they were faced with only Rinne. The two called Yūji a Mystes.
Battle 1 - Shana withstood fireballs thrown at her and defeated the Head Ball Rinne. It flew away.
Another Rinne recognized Shana as the "Flame-Haired Burning-Eyed Hunter", the Flame Haze of "Flame of Heaven" Alastor. Shana prepared to kill the Rinne before going after its master.
Battle 2 - Shana defeated the Head Ball Rinne. Marianne escaped.
Yūji asked about the flame inside him and Shana told him he was a Torch.
Stage 2[]
Friagne confronted Shana and introduced himself, with Alastor realizing he was the "Flame Haze Killer".
Battle 1 - Shana withstood Marianne's Regular Sharp attacks and landed a blow with Nietono no Shana.
Friagne gloated that he pitied Shana for being shackled by her Flame Haze duty, but Shana was defiant.
Battle 2 - Shana defeated Friagne.
After the battle, Shana went to Yūji, who was about to disappear, and assured him he wasn't only a Torch. Yūji did not disappear due to the power of the Treasure Tool inside him, the Reiji Maigo.
Stage 3[]
Shana confronted Margery. Alastor was acquainted with Margery's contracted Crimson Lord, Marchosias.
Battle 1 - Shana battled many clones of Toga.
Shana introduced herself to Margery, using her new name. Margery and Marchosias were confident they would emerge victorious.
Battle 2 - Shana defeated Margery.
Margery awoke and Shana explained that she didn't kill her because that wasn't her duty as a Flame Haze.
Bonus Stage[]
Shana struck down many packets of melonpan thrown around her which could damage her.
Sorath sensed the Nietono no Shana and told Tiriel, and they headed toward it.
Stage 4[]
Sorath and Tiriel confronted Shana. Tiriel didn't care about Shana being contracted to Alastor and would play with her.
Battle 1 - Shana battled many Pinions, some small and some large, which attacked her with vines.
As Shana was disgusted by the siblings' behavior, Tiriel told her their objective was the Nietono no Shana. Shana retaliated.
Battle 2 - Shana defeated Sorath, who was being supported by Tiriel.
Shana explained how she was together with Yūji and gained strength, and that she protects the world's balance.
Stage 5[]
Sydonay cornered Yūji and discovered he housed the Reiji Maigo. Shana rushed in.
Battle 1 - Shana withstood fireballs raining down on her.
Battle 2 - Shana defeated Sydonay.
Alastor was surprised Sydonay had fled. Yūji met up with Shana and they rushed back to the school before the Fūzetsu was undone. Shana wanted to give Yūji a reward for trying hard in the battle. She gave him a bag of melonpan. Meanwhile, Sydonay told Hecate he had found the Reiji Maigo, which she sought and could fulfill her.
Battle Mode[]
In battle mode, apart from Shana, the player can also choose to play as Friagne, Margery, Sorath and Tiriel, and Sydonay, the bosses in the story mode. There are five levels in battle mode and the higher the level you play, the greater the character powerup points awarded for winning. By clearing level 1 of Battle Mode with all characters, the secret character Wilhelmina is unlocked.
The player faces another character in three one-on-one matches and the side that wins two battles wins. The aim is to clear the level by defeating all 5 other characters. The characters the player faces come in a set order. For Shana, first is Margery, then Sorath and Tiriel, Friagne, Sydonay, and finally Wilhelmina. When playing as another character, Shana replaces that character's position in her order of opponents.
Battle Mode Training[]
There is also a training mode where the player can choose both the player character and enemy character. It has no time limit and the player can decide what action the computer takes.
Power System[]
In both story and battle mode, the player gains the opportunity to add points to their character's different statistics. All characters start with one point for all statistics. The statistics are:
- Attack Power (攻撃力 Kōgekiryoku )
- Defense Power (防御力 Bōgyoryoku )
- Special (スペシャル Supesharu ) - Rate of increase of the special skill gauge
- Luck (幸運 Kōun ) - Frequency of blocks and attack criticals are higher than the opponent if the player's luck level is higher than theirs
