Shakugan no Shana II ~Seireiden no Tatakai~ (灼眼のシャナII 〜星黎殿の戦い〜?, Shakugan no Shana II ~Battle at Seireiden~), also known as Shakugan no Shana 2 (灼眼のシャナ2?), is a mobile application action game developed by Taito. Unlike its predecessor, ~Enpatsu Shakugan no Uchite~, its story mode is based on the events of the anime. It also features artwork from the light novels and anime. The game was only available between April and May 2007 due to it being sold out.

The characters from ~Enpatsu Shakugan no Uchite~ return. Hecate and Swimsuit Shana were added due to popular demand from the previous game. Bel-Peol was also added. The game marks the first time Hecate has been animated in battle, as there was a lack of her fighting in the first season of the anime.[1]

Gameplay[]

Elements of the game's Story Mode, Battle Mode, and Power System are the same as the previous game, though there is an increase in the number of characters available for play in the two modes. The quality of gameplay has also increased.

Story Mode[]

Story Mode is possible with characters other than Shana, namely Margery, Wilhelmina and the alternate version of Shana, though the normal Shana is the default character and the others must be unlocked. The game has double the number of possible enemies compared to the previous game. With more characters, players can relive the battles of the anime series. The length of the Story Mode campaign and number of game stages are more than double the previous game.[2] Unlike ~Enpatsu Shakugan no Uchite~, battles in Story Mode are best-of-three matches like Battle Mode. There is also substantially more bonus stages in the game, which use Noizi Itō's illustration at the start. The content of the Bonus Stages are the same as the previous game.

Yūji Sakai's high school life had just begun. One day when walking home from school, the world around him froze, and the people nearby turned to flames which were devoured by a mannequin and a giant doll. He also saw a girl with flaming hair and eyes wielding a long sword. The girl, who called herself a Flame Haze, told Yūji that he wasn't a person but a thing. Yūji was dead, now only the remnants of his existence after being devoured by a Crimson Denizen. The girl stated that he would burn out before long without anyone noticing, calling him a Torch.

Stage 1[]

Yūji entered the classroom and noticed the Flame Haze girl, who he had named "Shana" yesterday, was sitting there. They were attacked by a Crimson Lord, "Hunter" Friagne.

Battle - Shana defeated Friagne.

After they defeated Friagne, Yūji was about to be extinguished, but his Torch flame shone brightly again when the clock struck midnight. He was a rare Torch called a Mystes and housed a treasure of the Crimson Realm, a Treasure Tool. His Treasure Tool, the Reiji Maigo, was a treasure among treasures which completely restored his consumed Power of Existence at midnight.

Stage 2[]

Margery Daw, the Flame Haze contracted to Marchosias, was skilled in the use of Unrestricted Spells and loved battle due to her desire for revenge against Crimson Denizens. Shana confronted her and stated that their mission was to protect the balance of this world and the Crimson Realm.

Battle - Shana defeated Margery.

SnT Margery defeated

Margery feeling she has nothing left.

Defeated and reprimanded for her destructive ways, Margery felt she had nothing left. Marchosias pointed out that below them were worried-looking high school students, who Margery had only used as guides for the city. Margery still had a place to be and a single tear fell down her cheek.

Stage 3[]

The Crimson Denizens Sorath and Tiriel arrived and sought the Nietono no Shana.

Battle - Shana defeated Sorath.

SnT Shana Tiriel's love

Shana deeply affected by Tiriel's love for Sorath.

Tiriel wanted Shana to also feel the "uncontrollable feeling" of love. Thanks to Shana and Yūji's unseen coordination, Tiriel's Unrestricted Spell Cradle Garden was defeated. When Shana was about to defeat the "Aizen Siblings", Tiriel used all her Power of Existence to save Sorath. As Tiriel disappeared, the love for Sorath she displayed was etched into Shana's mind. Shana apologized.

Bonus Stage[]

SnT bonus stage

Shana struck down many packets of melonpan thrown around her which could damage her.

Yūji was getting used to life with Shana, while Shana was confused by new feelings. Shana wanted Yūji to get stronger so they could always fight together. The Flame Haze Wilhelmina Carmel arrived. Wilhelmina was the one who had raised Shana and shown her the path of being a Flame Haze. She sought to preemptively prevent chaos from occurring in the city by causing the Random Transfer of the Reiji Maigo, which the Crimson Denizen organization Bal Masqué was after. This meant destroying the Mystes, Yūji Sakai.

Stage 4[]

Wilhelmina confronted Yūji while he was out for a walk and stated she would destroy him. Shana stepped in but couldn't argue with Wilhelmina that the Random Transfer of the Reiji Maigo meant they could avoid a confrontation with Bal Masqué, a large battle that would disturb the world's balance. This was especially valid reasoning as they did not know Bal Masqué's plans. As a Flame Haze, Shana should understand this.

Battle - Shana defeated Wilhelmina.

SnT Wilhelmina disappointment

Wilhelmina not wanting to be disappointed in Shana.

Seeing Shana's defiance, Wilhelmina trusted Shana's word that the Mystes was still of use. She would postpone destroying Yūji just this once. Wilhelmina believed in Shana and didn't want to become disappointed in her.

Stage 5[]

SnT Alastor warning Bel Peol

Alastor warning Bel-Peol.

Bal Masqué's stronghold Seireiden appeared before Shana and Wilhelmina. Bel-Peol confronted them. Alastor warned her that what they were doing would affect the world greatly, but she revealed that their objective was a Fountain of Existence. Wilhelmina knew Bel-Peol wouldn't show herself to just waste time talking. Sydonay appeared and abducted Yūji, taking him to Seireiden. Shana and Wilhelmina were going to infiltrate it.

Battle - Shana withstood fireballs thrown at her.

Deep inside Seireiden, Wilhelmina sensed an enormous amount of Power of Existence overflowing. She stated that if Shana went, she would find the answer as a Flame Haze. Just one of them reaching the Reiji Maigo would be enough.

Bonus Stage[]

Stage 6[]

SnT Dantalion experiment

Dantalion about to use the Flame Haze for his experiments.

Dantalion noticed Shana and Wilhelmina's arrival. Domino had completed preparations, meaning they could use the intruders in an experiment using the Whole Sacred Chapel. Shana and Wilhelmina were faced with many Rinne.

Battle - Shana destroyed many Mass Production Model Domino Rinne.

Shana and Wilhelmina had their Power of Existence absorbed. Dantalion was using an Unrestricted Spell which absorbed their power and used it to power the Rinne.

Stage 7[]

Alastor figured out that this Unrestricted Spell was the reason they had been let inside Seireiden so easily, as the Rinne were unaffected by it. Sydonay suddenly appeared before them.

Battle - Shana defeated Sydonay.

Domino reported that the Intercepting Unrestricted Spell Generator had broken.

Stage 8[]

Dantalion didn't know what would happen next and was greatly amused.

Battle - Shana destroyed many Mass Production Model Domino Rinne and landed a blow on the real Domino, who blew up.

SnT Yuji realization

Yūji's realization.

Yūji was linked with Hecate and sensed Shana was fighting. He realized Shana was coming to save him because she was Shana, and not just a Flame Haze. He had been the one seeing her as only a Flame Haze.

Bonus Stage[]

Stage 9[]

Bel-Peol said to herself that the Vessel of Hecate, who had assimilated with the Mystes, was bottomless, meaning the Reiji Maigo will restore power for eternity like a never-ending fountain. She appeared before Wilhelmina and bemoaned how Flame Haze always sought to crush new experiments, then prepared for battle.

Battle - Shana defeated Bel-Peol.

SnT Shana decision

Shana's decision.

Wilhelmina told Shana to go on ahead, wanting her to go as she thought Shana had come to the same conclusion as her. However, Shana vowed to not destroy Yūji and also not allow the world's balance to collapse, as she was not just a Flame Haze but a Flame Haze named Shana. Wilhelmina told her to go, not questioning the decision as she believed in her.

Stage 10[]

Yūji thought Hecate was coming into him, but Hecate thought it was the other way around. Yūji's thoughts were filling Hecate and she thought they were the answer to what she sought. Shana arrived and vowed to save Yūji.

Battle - Shana defeated Hecate.

SnT Alastor Manifestation

Alastor talking about his Manifestation.

What Hecate had sought was herself, as a definitive existence, which was being formed as she was being fulfilled with Yūji's thoughts. She considered them her own now, but Yūji stated that filling herself with another's thoughts was meaningless, as it wasn't herself. He was Yūji Sakai, but who was she? Hecate felt that what was fulfilling her was now disappearing, but to Yūji, she had simply been empty the entire time. Hecate screamed and the Power of Existence she had amassed began to pour out, the amount of which shocking even Alastor. It was pouring into the city and was too dangerous to be left alone. The only way it could be stopped was by the Manifestation of Alastor into this world using the overflowing power. However, Alastor's Manifestation would mean the destruction of his Flame Haze Vessel, which had occurred before. Shana stated that that was the fate given to the Flame-Haired Burning-Eyed Flame Haze. She had saved Yūji as Shana, and now would fulfill her duty as a Flame Haze. There was no way for Yūji to escape, but he had vowed long ago to go with Shana. Shana used Tenpa Jōsai and told Yūji she loved him.

SnT Shana upset

Shana upset.

Yūji woke Shana up. Alastor explained that Shana's Vessel took in his entire existence. Yūji noticed Shana was naked and she became upset.

Battle Mode[]

SnT Bel Peol fighting Margery

Bel-Peol versus Margery.

In Battle Mode, more characters are available. Like the previous game, players can level up their selected character's Power Statistics with points after clearing stages. Level 1 of Battle Mode requires the player to defeat 6 characters to clear it, and the 6 are always Wilhelmina, Margery, Sorath and Tiriel, Sydonay, Bel-Peol, and Hecate in that order. Unlike the previous game, it is possible for the player to fight against the same character they are controlling.

Versions[]

Like its predecessor, ~Seireiden no Tatakai~ has three versions for different mobile services, all offered by Taito.
